17th Crap Game Competition!
it's from the deepest cave of the usenet groups, it's at the heart of the cascade50 tape, it's one of the oldest events of the internet retro culture, it lives within the zx spectrum scene and it's simulated beautifully with advanced crap game competition simulation game:
it's comp.sys.sinclair's crap game competition 2012!
What is it?
it's a game making competition, but to win the compo you have to create a crap game. A crap game is a game that created with good intentions, tries to be the best game ever, but generally programmed with sinclair basic, fails to become one. In a 80's amateur programmer's eye, it still might be bestest game ever but obviously, it's not, actually it's very, very bad.
This next bit is "borrowed" from guesser's csscgc 2009 site.
The Comp.Sys.Sinclair Crap Games Competition is an annual competition between the regular posters of the comp.sys.sinclair newsgroup, and anyone else who can be bothered, to write the crappest game for a sinclair computer. In homage to the "Cascade Cassette 50", a cassette tape stuffed with badly written basic games, released in 1983. It offered the promise of "50 Fantastic Games On One Cassette" and came with a free Timex digital calculator watch!
How do I enter?
There are two different route, first one is slow but the old school way, you email me at email@example.com and wait patiently up to 15 days. Your entry should appear on games page.
The second way is faster, but the work must be done by you. Create a screenshot in jpg or png format, including borders, sizing 320x240 pixels and a zip file containing everything you want (game file tap/sna/dsk/z80, readme files, screenshots, source files). Then fill the form under "Submit a Game" menu.
I don't want to enter but I want to participate!
This year it's possible to pick your winners by assigning Sweet Bellas to games.
Also, you can add your own reviews to the games if you want.
Who are you?
My name is Arda (my nickname is Ref) and I live in Istabul, Turkey. I am one of the late addendums to the speccy scene, I still consider myself as a beginner. Because of this, I find hosting this year`s compo is an honour. If you have questions do not hestitate to email me. Have fun playing crap games and please consider writing one yourself! It`s hard to create a real crap game --wait, no, it`s not-- but hey it`s Zx Spectrum`s 30th Year!.
